Chapter Issues
1) Our list of actual, chartered chapters of ASD is slowly fleshing out, but we can really use your help. If you are a member of a chapter, please ask your chapter president or secretary to email us at with all pertinent information. We get requests daily from hopeful and would-be dowsers looking for groups in their areas, and we would like to be as up-to-date as possible with the most accurate information.
2) You all know about ASD’s improving but still worrisome financial situation. If one rule that already exist would just be enforced, it would go a long way to providing ongoing income for ASD: To join a chapter, you must join ASD. Many of our officially chartered chapters do not enforce this rule, which greatly diminishes ASD’s position, strength and power, not to mention ability to thrive and flourish. Just think, if all chapter members were ASD members, how strong and dynamic the society would be! We are looking for your help here. Do you have any ideas which would manifest this reality? Brainstorm, and contact us. ASD has a lot to offer, and with committed chapters and members, it is all possible. Your assistance could bring this situation back into balance.
ASD Digest
The fall issue of The American Dowser will be late by a week or two. Diligent efforts are being made to get back on the schedule dictated by the Policies & Procedures Manual. We almost made it this time, but a curveball from the universe got in the way of our editorial group. Thanks for hanging in there! On a related note, one of the PPM issues your trustees will be dealing with soon is accepting advertising in the Digest. Our quarterly journal could be a literally self-sustaining publication if we accepted some dowsing-related advertisements. The British Society of Dowsers journal is a fine example of a journal that does so, with style and professionalism. So, let us know your thoughts on that. Perhaps you have a product or service you’d like your fellow dowser members to know about? Here’s the best niche market you’ll ever find!
Gnawing Questions
We invite you to let us know if there is an issue you want to see covered in this space. If you’ve had a question gnawing at you that we can answer, whether it’s about ASD itself, your board of trustees, our wonderful bookstore or upcoming events, let us know. It’s been said before, this is a member-driven society, and we are here for you. Literally.
Board of Trustees
Your current board of trustees has had its trials and tribulations this term, but we are feeling very good about the progress we’ve made in our job that you elected us to do. We have scheduled a trustee meeting December 15th and 16th in Danville to review some much-needed bylaw changes, painstakingly crafted by Operations Manager Arvid Johnson. We need to adopt a new budget before the end of the year, so our work is cut out for us. Keep in mind, folks, with elections coming up and names of potential trustees going to the nominating committee, please choose with care. Remember, much of the control you have over your trustees is in your vote. It takes a team player to be effective on a board, and a willingness to participate, to work toward a common goal, and to attend meetings. Set your sights on the higher good for ASD, and get your name on the ballot. It is work, and it’s very rewarding. Thank you in advance!
