News Update ~ 120106

The December Update

Here it is, Thanksgiving’s behind us, and the turkeys are breathing more easily here in Vermont.  We hope all our members had a good one.

We have some sad news to relate in this issue of News & Notes.  Many members will remember Kay Barnard, who held several positions here at Headquarters between 2003 and 2004.  We found out recently that Kay passed away Friday evening, October 20, 2006, during a spectacular thunder and windstorm in Laconia, New Hampshire, with her family at her side.  This link will take you to her obituary.

We send her family our sincerest condolences.

Dowsers in the News

Trustee Bill Northern sent us this link to a story about a racehorse he’s been working with. It’s a great story; thanks Bill for passing it on. If your local or regional papers have any dowsing stories, send them in for your fellow dowsers to enjoy.

Request for Help

You may remember our request for help in the message insert in the last digest, asking for financial documentation from the regional dowsing conferences (that are held under the auspices of ASD). We are very grateful for those who responded, enabling us to fill in some holes in our accounting records for recent years. Little by little, pieces are falling into place at Headquarters as O.M. Arvid Johnson and his assistant, Scot Foxx, keep digging into the problems.  Thanks for all your hard work, gents!

The 5th annual Crop Circle Conference

The weekend of November 11 & 12, was a busy one for Headquarters.  The 5th Annual Crop Circle Conference was put on by SacredBritain.org at Goddard College in Plainfield, Vermont. Scot worked hard transporting much of ASD’s bookstore to the event.  He manned the tables all weekend, with help from convention chair Cynthia Brush.  Sales were good for both the ASD tables and at the Water For Humanity Fund table where they continued sales of the mineral collection donated by the Phillip Kuras (now) of Atlanta, Georgia.

Cynthia also had flyers available announcing next year’s Annual Convention, so our presence at the event provided a lot of free publicity. Sacred Britain is also known as Glenn & Cameron Broughton of Hinesburg, Vermont.  Glenn and Cameron are members of ASD and the Chittenden County Chapter.  It was a wonderful event with inspiring speakers; the new 2007 crop circle calendar was scarfed up in great numbers by attendees, as well as a super crop circle DVD and photographs.

From Sybil

We hear from Sybil Carey, nominating committee chair, that more nominations for trustee are needed.  Forms are available from HQ by sending an email to asd@dowsers.org

Wrack your brain, what ASD member do you know who cares, has time to donate, has some creativity and energy to spare, and is someone you trust to look out for your interests as a member of this society? Quick, send in their name to Sybil at asdeditor@yahoo.com We look forward to hearing from you.

Last but not least

Our publications committee chair, Joya Clark, tells us the next Digest is at the printer and we can look forward to seeing it in our mailboxes soon.  If your membership happened to expire in September or October and you haven’t yet renewed, you will still receive this issue.  If your membership lapsed before then, however, your name is not on the list for the printer to ship.  That can be remedied with a quick call to HQ, so don’t panic!  This is a great fall issue (the theme is unusual dowsing), and many thanks to Joya for the absurd number of hours she put into this Digest.

Your Treasurer, George Weller, and Arvid Johnson, Operations Manager, are delighted to report that they now have a balanced 2007 budget with a new chart of accounts that actually correlates with our accounting software, so an accurate year-to-date budget vs. actual is now possible for the first time! This came about only because of their devotion to this task; countless hours spent on it with help from Stephanie Gadapee, our bookkeeper and our accountant. Great job, guys!

Thanks for your support of ASD and dowsing!
